Building on the victory achieved last summer in federal law, the Campaign to end the R-Word Continues. Last summer, the congress passed and the President signed Rosa’s Law – legislation removing the term “mental retardation” from all federal laws and replacing it with the term “intellectual disabilities.” Several states had already made this change but those that had not are implementing this process now.
This effort has been helped by the public Campaign to End the R Word which has released a new public service announcement further trying to remove the R-Word from the public lexicon. See the new PSA here: http://www.r-word.org/r-word-not-acceptable-psa.aspx
