All around the nation, school systems continue to face severe budget crises, and many have been forced to lay off educators. These deep cuts will result in enlarged class sizes and other strains on schools, which have already reduced many of their services.
To assist states, districts and educators in responding to this situation, Senator Harkin has introduced the Keep Our Educators Working Act of 2010, which would provide $23 billion dollars for an education jobs fund to help states and districts save jobs for teachers and related services personnel. CEC supports this legislation, which mirrors a versionpassed by the House in December of 2009, which CEC also supported.
We need your help now! Please go to CEC’s Legislative Action Centerand contact your Senators. Use our letter to encourage them to co-sponsor this legislation and ask them to urge the Senate to pass this legislation right away. Your Senators need to know how this situation is impacting their state – so add a few sentences to the letter about how the fiscal crisis has impacted you, your students and your school district.
With your help, we can make a difference in the lives of students with exceptionalities and the professionals who work on their behalf.
