In honor of National Principals Month in October, the Center on Great Teachers and Leaders (GTL Center) released two new resources.
The first resource is a New Professional Learning Module, Coaching and Developing Turnaround Leader Actions. School turnaround requires strong leaders with the necessary competencies and skills to take high-leverage actions that support school success. Coaching can help school leaders develop these capabilities. Developed in partnership with the Center on Great Teachers and Leaders, The Center on School Turnaround, Public Impact, and University of Virginia (UVA) Darden/Curry Partnership for Leaders in Education. The materials are free and designed to support RCCs, state education agencies, and districts in developing a strategic plan for providing this crucial coaching to school leaders.
The second resource is a New Toolkit and Crosswalk, Aligning Leadership Standards to the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders. Is your state or program considering a transition to the new Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL)? Developed in partnership with the Council of Chief State School Officers, this toolkit offers state education agencies, leadership preparation programs, and other organizations a step-by-step process for aligning their current leadership standards to the PSEL. In addition, as a useful starting point for your conversation, GTL has created a crosswalk between ISLLC 2008 and the new PSEL standards.
