Senator Harkin (D-Ia.), a longtime disability advocate, is leading a renewed advocacy effort to ratify the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), an international treaty that is the vital framework to protect the human rights of persons with disabilities across the world.
In a rally with advocates today, Harkin noted the great progress that has been made over the past several months while strongly advising that there is still work to be done. Advocates are pushing for the Senate to consider the CRPD by the end of this month.
With National Disability Awareness week starting on Monday, this is the perfect time to spread the word and put the pressure on the Senate. The time to advocate is now!
Please take the following action steps as you can to help us Ratify the Treaty Now.
1. Email your Senators directly using the CEC Legislative Action Center. It literally only takes a minute! A sample letter is provided.
2. Tweet your Senators to show your support. Click here for list of your Senators Twitter IDs. Remember to use #Disability Treaty for each tweet you send.
