While some lawmakers have made it clear that sequestration – the federal initiative that already cut over $2 billion from the U.S. Department of Education – must not continue, others are still wavering. And some are considering whether to spare defense programs but keep future cuts in place for other domestic programs, like education. Such a thought prompted Sen. Harkin to say that cutting defense at the expense of other programs would be defenseless.
