But her visit to Washington, DC last week brought out another passion: advocating with the Committee for Education Funding (CEF) for increasing federal funding for our nation’s education programs.
CEC serves as a CEF Board member and has long advocated for more funding for all IDEA programs, and the many other federal education programs which impact children and youth with disabilities and/or gifts and talents.
While federal lawmakers are now at an impasse over federal funding levels – which has resulted in 8 days of a federal government shutdown – last week’s CEF legislative event featured several members of Congress who spoke passionately about the importance of investing in education including, Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), a longtime disability champion; Representative George Miller (D-CA); and Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-CT).
Although the federal government remains closed, you can still email your members of Congress to urge them to support education funding, which was recently cut by $2 billion due to sequestration. Tell Congress to vote for more education funding!
