Today, at CEC’s Annual Convention in San Antonio, Texas, CEC is releasing two new documents to help members understand and use CEC’s Position on Special Education Teacher Evaluation.
The first is Teachers! It’s CEC’s Top Ten Innovative Ways to Use and Share the Position on Special Education Teacher Evaluation. This identifies the ways you can use the Position to advocate in your own evaluation, school, district and state. It has ideas about how to speak out and where. Check this out and make your voice heard!
The second document is a Q&A called Everything You Need To Know! This is meant to give you a quick and easy explanation of some of the Positions main points. Share this with your colleagues and solicit their thoughts on how evaluations in your area are evolving.
CEC released the Position in the fall of 2012, after extensive member and expert input. The Position advocates for evaluation systems that include the following:
- Include Fundamental System wide Components
- Recognize the Complex Role of the Special Education Teacher
- Measure the Use of Evidence-Based Practices
- Recognize the Professionalism of Special Education Teachers
- Continually Incorporate Findings From Research
