The Joseph P. Kennedy Foundation was established in 1964 by Ambassador and Mrs. Joseph P. Kennedy. Its objectives are two-fold: to improve the way society deals with its citizens who have mental retardation (intellectual disabilities), and to help identify and disseminate ways to prevent the causes of mental retardation (intellectual disabilities).

Applications should include a 2-4 page letter of intent that includes information on their background and qualifications, a resume and three letters of support from persons familiar with their work.
