Thanks to everyone who participated in our National Call-in Day to stop sequestration and save special education. More than 700 CEC messages were sent to Congress on 12/12/12 asking for a balanced budget plan. You asked Congress to keep vital resources such as education, housing, medical research and law enforcement, funded and available for students, teachers and families. As the fiscal cliff looms closer, your advocacy is a vital part of preventing these detrimental budget cuts.
Where do things stand now?
The parties are still negotiating and the cliff is fast approaching. Over the last few weeks, President Obama and Speaker of the US House of Representatives, John Boehner, have spoken privately repeatedly. New details emerge about these conversations every day, yet until there is legislation drafted and made public, we won’t have a great idea what we are in for. We do know that it is very likely the House and Senate will be in session between Christmas and New Years, a schedule that is somewhat unprecedented.Stay tuned! And, if you haven’t sent an email up yet to your Senators and Representatives telling them to Save Special Education – here is your chance.
