The August recess has begun and members of Congress have returned to their home offices and towns to better connect with constituents. This is an excellent opportunity to build your relationships without making the trek to Washington, DC!
How do you use the August recess to your advantage and what to say? Here are some helpful tips:
- Attend Public Events: Town halls, parades, and local events are a terrific way to get to know your members of Congress. For event schedules, check the Member’s website, follow them on Twitter, or like them on Facebook!
- Talk it Up – Prevent $1 Billion in Special Education Funding Cuts: You have read about it on this blog for months, “sequestration” – the 8% cut to all education programs is set to take effect on January 2, 2013, unless Congress acts. Use this opportunity to share how funding cuts will hurt your students, school and community.
- Be a Social Butterfly! Don’t be shy – share with CEC information about the meeting or event you attended and don’t forget to take pictures! Tweet from events, before and after meetings and tell us your hashtag so that we can retweet to share your experiences. Follow @CECAdvocacy on Twitter to hear from us and to share your stories.
