This year we celebrated the 22nd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The passage of this act was a monumental victory for the disabilities rights community in 1990. The White House celebrated this milestone with a gathering of leaders from the disabilities community on the morning of July 26. CEC’s past president Marilyn Friend attended this event along with CEC member Angel Lopez from the University of Central Florida and Deborah Ziegler, Associate Executive Director for Policy and Advocacy Services. View the video to hear the discussion between Dr Lopez and the panel of speakers during the question and answer session.
The event was streamed live from the White House and included remarks by Valerie Jarrett, a senior advisor and assistant for Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs for the President. The event was also commemorated by a presidential proclamation, which you can read here.
