Last week, during CEC’s Annual Convention, CEC members and twitter followers from across the country came together to participate in a Twitter Town Hall with U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Assistant Secretary for Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, Alexa Posny.
Secretary Duncan and Assistant Secretary Posny answered a variety of questions on subjects such as Response to Intervention, the Workforce Investment Act, funding for IDEA Part B grants, physical education inclusion for students with disabilities and access to technology. Of particular interest to CEC members were the Department’s following tweets:
- “We are committed to moving away from the 2% policy & we are considering options”A reference to the alternate assessment based on modified achievement standards;
- “We are highly engaged in the WIA dialogue & looking at competitive & integrated employment”A reference to the reauthorization of the Workforce Investment Act;
- “Absolutely focus on results w/ input from stakeholders over the next few months” in answer to whether the Department will provide additional guidance on the recent change to maintenance of effort interpretation;
