On Monday, President Obama announced his intent to nominate several new appointees to various departments and agencies. Included among this list was Deborah Delisle, who will be nominated for the position of Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education in the Department of Education.
Ms. Delisle began her education career as an elementary school teacher in the 1970s. Since then she has served in a variety of administrative positions including Director of Academic Services, Director of Curriculum and Professional Development, and Coordinator of Gifted and Talented Programs, culminating in her tenure as the state Superintendent of Public Instruction for the Ohio Department of Education from 2008 to 2011. Ms. Delisle has served on several education boards, including the Governing Board of the Minority Student Achievement Network, Executive Board of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, and the Council of Chief State School Officers Executive Board.
