If Congress fails to act soon, all funding for the government will run out after December 3. December 3rd is the date on which the current continuing resolution will expire. Congress has a few options. First, they could pass the appropriations bills independently and send them to the President. Next, they could pass all appropriations bills as one ‘omnibus’ package and send this to the President, or they could simply pass another continuing resolution, which would keep the government open but only fund it at FY 2010 levels.
CEC is urging both the Senate and the House to pass the appropriations for FY 2011 during the lame duck session to ensure services are provided and increases are preserved. Join us and let your voice be heard!!
Senate
CEC urges you to act now! Tell the Senate to keep the increases for IDEA allocated by the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies. Specifically, tell your Senators to approve the Subcommittee’s proposed increase of $20 million for IDEA Part C (Infants and Toddlers) and $220 million for IDEA Part B (ages 3-21). States and locals are hurting and this money is needed now. Also, ask them to ensure funding for the Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Education Act. Contact your Senators here.
House
Then, contact your Representative. Tell your Representative to keep the increases for IDEA allocated by the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies. Specifically, tell your Representatives to approve the Subcommittee’s proposed increase of $200 million for all IDEA programs. Also, ask them to ensure funding for the Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Education Act.
Take action! Be an advocate! Visit our Legislative Action Center and send a letter asking your Member of Congress to fully fund IDEA and increase amounts for Research!!!
