This week, the U.S. Department of Education announced the winners of its competition to develop the “next generation” of assessments based on alternate achievement standards for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities.
Importantly, these new alternate assessments will align with the work of the other two state consortia, who recently won the Race to the Top Assessment Competition. Those tests are being designed to test all other students with disabilities.
These new alternate assessments are slated to be ready for use in the 2014-2015 school year. CEC will be following the piloting and implementation of these assessments and bringing you information throughout this process.
