It is a great disappointment to see our nation's leader back-pedaling on his support of our nation's educational services. I realize that the current economic situation requires us to make compromises and cut-backs but those compromises should not be at the expense of our children. The problems of today and those that we are not yet even faced with will be in the hands of today's children. If we do not do our all to provide them with the knowledge and skills to solve such problems then our future will be very bleak in-deed.

It is easy to read things about the budgets and decisions being made and judge them at face value. If I or my peers were in this position, could we find a resolution? We are in such economic turmoil and all group feels their money is crucial and shouldn't be cut. At some point, we are all losing out in this type of an economy and all groups, special education, gifted education, and general education are feeling the crunch. I think the President is attempting to cover all his bases and this leads to back peddaling and changing sides or goals as things continue to grow.

Losing funding in any educational program is painful. Prevention programs including early childhood education are especially difficul to cut. However, everyone is going to have to feel some pain. Many programs will continue, i.e. Head Start. to function and as educators, we will need to pull together to survive the crunch.
