The U.S. Department of Education has
released guidance, in the form of a questions and answer guide, to provide
additional information about the Race to the Top program.
Included as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Race to the Top is a $4.35 billion competitive grant program to encourage and reward States that are implementing
significant reforms in the four education areas:
- Enhancing standards and
assessments,
- Improving the
collection and use of data,
- Increasing teacher
effectiveness and achieving equity in teacher distribution, and
- Turning around
struggling schools.
States are required to submit an application in order to be considered. The State Race to the Top applications are due January 19, 2010.
Read CEC's recommendations for the Race to the Top program.
CEC is closely monitoring this and other cases around the nation to determine how courts are interpreting IDEA’s provisions.
